3-Day Rajsamand Trip from Udaipur: Temples, Heritage, Goram Ghat & Hidden Gems of Mewar
Located around 65–70 km from Udaipur, Rajsamand makes an interesting short getaway for travellers who want to explore a quieter side of Rajasthan. The region brings together ancient temples, Mewar history, peaceful lakes, local markets, heritage architecture and the scenic landscapes of the Aravalli Hills.
Living in Udaipur, I have always found the areas around the city interesting for short road trips. Rajsamand is one such destination where a single journey can take you from centuries-old temples and historic battlefields to lakes, railway landscapes and heritage properties.
While many travellers visit Nathdwara and return to Udaipur the same day, spending three days in the Rajsamand region allows you to explore much more.
This 3-day Rajsamand itinerary is suitable for families, couples, solo travellers and photography enthusiasts looking for a memorable getaway from Udaipur.
Day 1: Spirituality, History & Nathdwara
Stop 1: Sahastra Bahu Temple (Saas Bahu Temple)
Time: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Begin your trip at the beautiful Sahastra Bahu Temple, popularly known as the Saas Bahu Temple, in Nagda village.
Dating back to the 10th century, the temple is known for its intricate stone carvings, beautifully decorated pillars and detailed architectural work. Despite the popular name "Saas Bahu Temple", the larger temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The peaceful surroundings make this an excellent first stop before continuing towards Eklingji.
Time to Spend: 45–60 minutes
Stop 2: Eklingji Temple
Time: 9:15 AM – 10:30 AM
Continue to Eklingji Temple, one of the most important spiritual sites associated with Mewar.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Eklingji, the temple complex is known for its traditional architecture and religious importance. Maharana rulers of Mewar regarded Lord Eklingji as the spiritual ruler of the kingdom.
The temple is not just a place of worship but also an important part of Mewar's cultural and historical identity.
Explore Eklingji Market
Before leaving, you can spend a little time around the local market. Small shops sell pooja items, marble idols, handicrafts, local snacks and souvenirs.
Stop 3: Haldighati
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
No Rajsamand trip is complete without exploring the history of Haldighati.
Haldighati is closely associated with the historic Battle of Haldighati fought in 1576, involving Maharana Pratap and the Mughal forces. The region is also remembered for the legendary loyalty of Chetak, Maharana Pratap's horse.
A visit to the Haldighati Museum and nearby historical sites gives travellers an opportunity to understand the story of Maharana Pratap, Chetak and the history of Mewar through exhibits, paintings and audio-visual presentations.
Depending on your available time, you can also explore Haldighati Pass and nearby memorial sites.
Haldighati is especially interesting for travellers who want to understand the history behind the places they are visiting rather than simply sightseeing.
Lunch Break
Time: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Take a lunch break before continuing towards Nathdwara.
If you want to try traditional Rajasthani food, some popular dishes to look for include:
Dal Baati Churma
Gatte Ki Sabzi
Ker Sangri
Bajra Roti
Chaas
Stop 4: Statue of Belief, Nathdwara
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Continue towards Nathdwara to visit the impressive Statue of Belief, a monumental statue dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Standing around 369 feet tall, the statue has become one of the major attractions in the Nathdwara region. The surrounding complex includes viewing areas and other visitor attractions.
Allow around two hours for the visit, depending on the crowd and activities you choose to experience.
Stop 5: Shrinathji Temple
Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
End your first day with a visit to the famous Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara.
The temple is one of the most important pilgrimage sites associated with Lord Krishna and is known for its devotional atmosphere and traditional rituals.
Temple timings and darshan schedules can vary, so check the current schedule before planning your visit.
Explore Nathdwara Market
After darshan, explore the lively streets and markets around the temple.
Nathdwara is particularly known for Pichwai paintings, temple sweets, traditional clothing, silver jewellery and religious souvenirs.
This is also a good place to experience the local culture and atmosphere of Nathdwara beyond the temple itself.
Overnight Stay: Nathdwara
Day 2: Rajsamand Lake, Heritage & Local Culture
Stop 1: Dwarkadhish Temple, Kankroli
Time: 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM
Start your second day by travelling towards Kankroli and visiting Dwarkadhish Temple.
Located close to Rajsamand Lake, the temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and offers a peaceful spiritual experience.
An early morning visit is ideal if you want to explore the temple surroundings before continuing towards the lake.
Stop 2: Rajsamand Lake
Time: 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Next, spend some time at Rajsamand Lake, one of the region's most important historical and scenic landmarks.
The lake was constructed during the reign of Maharana Raj Singh I in the 17th century. Its marble embankments, ghats and historic inscriptions reflect the architectural and cultural heritage of Mewar.
The peaceful surroundings make the lake a pleasant place for photography, a relaxed walk and quiet sightseeing.

Stop 3: Nau Chauki Pal
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Continue to Nau Chauki Pal, a historic marble embankment associated with Rajsamand Lake.
The site is known for its marble architecture, carvings and historical inscriptions. Compared with Rajasthan's more famous tourist attractions, Nau Chauki offers a quieter experience and gives visitors an opportunity to appreciate the region's heritage without large crowds.
Take some time to observe the details in the stonework and inscriptions rather than simply treating it as a quick photo stop.
Stop 4: Kankroli & Rajsamand Local Markets
Time: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Spend some time exploring the local markets of Kankroli and Rajsamand.
These markets offer a glimpse into everyday life in the region and are different from the more tourist-focused shopping streets of Udaipur and Nathdwara.
Depending on what you are looking for, you may find:
Traditional sweets
Local namkeen
Marble handicrafts
Pooja items
Everyday local products
Handmade souvenirs
Shopping locally can also be a simple way to support small businesses and artisans.
Lunch Break
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Enjoy lunch and take some rest before the evening sightseeing.
Sunset at Rajsamand Lake
Time: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Return to the lake in the evening for sunset.
As the light changes over the water and surrounding landscape, Rajsamand Lake becomes particularly beautiful for photography.
If you enjoy quiet places rather than crowded tourist attractions, spending the evening here can be one of the most relaxing parts of the trip.
Overnight Stay: Rajsamand or Deogarh
Day 3: Goram Ghat & Royal Deogarh
Stop 1: Goram Ghat
Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Begin your final day with Goram Ghat, one of the most scenic natural destinations in the Aravalli region.
Often described as the "Mini Kashmir of Rajasthan", Goram Ghat is known for its green hills, valleys, forests, railway bridges and tunnels.
The historic railway route passing through the Aravalli landscape makes the area particularly interesting for photographers, train enthusiasts and nature lovers.
During the monsoon, the surrounding hills become greener and the landscape can look dramatically different. Winter offers more comfortable conditions for outdoor exploration.
Time to Spend: 3–4 hours
Goram Ghat Travel Tips
Goram Ghat requires a little more planning than a normal sightseeing stop.
Check the current railway route and train availability before travelling.
Do not assume that a particular train will operate every day.
Keep sufficient drinking water and snacks with you.
Wear comfortable shoes if your plan involves walking.
Monsoon visitors should be prepared for slippery paths and changing weather.
Avoid walking or standing on active railway tracks for photographs.
Maintain a safe distance from trains and railway infrastructure.
Carry basic rain protection during the monsoon.
Start early so you have enough daylight for exploring.
Keep the area clean and avoid leaving plastic or food waste behind.
Goram Ghat is best enjoyed slowly. The combination of hills, greenery, railway structures and open landscapes makes it very different from the temple and heritage experiences of the first two days.
Lunch Break
Time: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
After exploring Goram Ghat, take a lunch break before continuing towards Deogarh.
Stop 2: Deogarh Mahal
Time: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
End your Rajsamand journey at Deogarh Mahal, a heritage property known for its traditional architecture, courtyards, frescoes and views of the surrounding Aravalli landscape.
The historic atmosphere of Deogarh offers a different experience from the temples and lakes visited earlier in the trip. Walking through its traditional spaces provides a glimpse into Rajasthan's heritage and royal-era architecture.
If you are planning to visit the property without staying overnight, check the current visitor or dining access policy in advance, as access can depend on the property's current arrangements.
Allow around two to three hours for the Deogarh experience.
Return to Udaipur
After exploring Deogarh, begin your journey back towards Udaipur.
By the end of these three days, you will have experienced a different side of Mewar—from ancient temples and the history of Maharana Pratap to Rajsamand Lake, local markets, Goram Ghat's landscapes and Deogarh's heritage charm.
How to Reach Rajsamand from Udaipur
By Road
Road travel is the most convenient option for exploring Rajsamand because this itinerary includes several places spread across the region.
You can travel by your own car, bike, taxi or other local transport depending on your group size and itinerary.
By Bus
Buses connect Udaipur with Rajsamand and other nearby towns. However, for a multi-stop itinerary like this one, public transport may require additional planning.
By Air
The nearest major airport is Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur. From the airport, Rajsamand and the surrounding attractions can be reached by road.
By Train
Rail connectivity is available in the wider region, but train routes and schedules vary depending on your destination. If Goram Ghat is part of your plan, check the latest railway information before travelling rather than relying on an old timetable.
Estimated Budget for a 3-Day Rajsamand Trip
The actual cost depends on your transport, accommodation, food choices and entry fees.
| Expense | Approx. Budget |
|---|---|
| Food | ₹800–₹1,500 |
| Local Transport | ₹500–₹3,000+ |
| Entry Tickets | ₹200–₹1,000+ |

Note: These are approximate planning figures. Prices for accommodation, transport and attractions can change depending on season, availability and current rates. Check official sources before travelling.
Best Time to Visit Rajsamand
The best time for a comfortable Rajsamand trip is generally October to March, when temperatures are more suitable for sightseeing, temple visits and outdoor exploration.
October to March
Best for comfortable sightseeing, road trips and heritage exploration.
July to September
Monsoon brings greenery to the Aravalli Hills and can make places such as Goram Ghat especially scenic. However, rain can affect road and walking conditions.
April to June
Summer afternoons can be hot, so outdoor sightseeing is better planned for early mornings and evenings.
If you want to experience the cultural and spiritual side of Mewar, you can also consider planning around festivals such as:
Janmashtami
Mahashivratri
Diwali
Annakut
Sharad Purnima
Festival dates and temple schedules should be checked before planning your trip.
Who Should Take This Rajsamand Trip?
Families
The itinerary combines temples, history, lakes and heritage attractions, offering different experiences for different age groups.
Couples
Rajsamand Lake sunsets, peaceful temple visits and heritage surroundings make the region suitable for a relaxed couple's getaway.
Solo Travellers
History, photography, local markets and nature make this a rewarding destination for travellers who enjoy exploring beyond major tourist spots.
Photography Lovers
Sahastra Bahu Temple, Haldighati, Rajsamand Lake, Goram Ghat and Deogarh offer very different landscapes and architectural subjects.
Why Visit Rajsamand?
Rajsamand offers much more than a quick stop at Nathdwara.
Within three days, you can explore the spiritual heritage of Eklingji and Shrinathji, learn about the history of Maharana Pratap at Haldighati, admire the marble architecture around Rajsamand Lake, explore local markets, experience the green landscapes of Goram Ghat and discover the heritage charm of Deogarh.
What makes the region special is the variety. One moment you can be exploring a centuries-old temple, and the next you can be standing beside a peaceful lake or looking at railway bridges cutting through the Aravalli Hills.
For travellers looking for a short getaway from Udaipur, Rajsamand offers a slower and more diverse way to experience the heritage, culture and landscapes of Mewar.
Final Thoughts
Rajsamand is a destination worth exploring beyond the usual Nathdwara day trip.
If you have three days, this itinerary gives you a balanced mix of spirituality, history, local culture, nature and heritage without trying to cover every attraction in the region.
For me, that is what makes a road trip around Rajsamand interesting—the journey connects several different sides of Mewar in one route.
